e. e. Cummings - maggie and milly and molly and may

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea

Gnawledge - Granada Doaba [2008 - Spain, USA]

An interesting lil project. Granada Doaba is a flamenco hip-hop fusion album created by Fullbrite Scholoar Canyon Cody and rapper/producer Gnotes doing a research grant on "multicultural fusion and collaboration in Andalucian music." They encourage listeners to share the album and also provide the audio tracks for remixing on their site: http://gnawledge.com/granadadoaba/

Al Hirt - Soul In the Horn [1967- USA]

Certainly the funkiest Al Hirt record I've heard so far. It's impossible to not enjoy this album. It's also loaded with dope samples for all you beat makers out there. But beware, it's already been picked apart by many. After listening to the last track "Harlem Hindoo," check out "Stay Cool" by the Roots, and "Ego Trippin' (Part 2)" by De La Soul.

Kahlil Gibran - Children [1923]

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

AmpLive - Rainydayz [2008 - USA]

Surprisingly sick. Hip-hop remixes of Radiohead's In Rainbows might sound like a terrible, blasphemous, gimmicky, idea, but AmpLive not only makes it work, he does it well.
AmpLive, the other half of Bay Area hip-hop duo Zion I, is one of the dopest producers/DJs out there. Mind Over Matter still to this day remains his best work, in my opinion, but AmpLive is continuously putting out ridiculously ill beats. Give this album a listen, it's definitely something different.

Langston Hughes - Necessity

Work?
I don't have to work.
I don't have to do nothing
but eat, drink, stay black, and die.
This little old furnished room's
so small I can't whip a cat
without getting fur in my mouth
and my landlady's so old
her features is all run together
and God knows she sure can overcharge-
Which is why I reckon I does
have to work after all.
